What Is Hex Head Roofing Screws?

Metal-to-metal screws (for metal purlins, Z-channels, and steel framing): Available in 7/8" stitch, 1.25", 2", 2.5", and 3". All metal-to-metal screws are $80/bag (250pc). These feature a sharp drill point designed to penetrate steel framing without pre-drilling.

Metal-to-wood screws (for wood purlins, decking, and wood framing): Available in 1", 1.5", 2", 2.5", and 3". 1"–2" sizes are $60/bag; 2.5" and 3" are $80/bag. These feature a coarse thread and sharp point optimized for wood penetration.

How to use them: set the screw in the top of the rib (2-inch minimum) or in the flat beside the rib (1.5-inch for plywood, 1-inch self-driller for metal purlins), passing at least 1/2 inch below the underside of the deck or purlin, with screws on both sides of the ribs at the eave and ridge. The neoprene or EPDM sealing washer should sit snug, not crushed, so do not over-tighten. Pattern and spacing come from the panel's Florida Product Approval. Brush off drill shavings the same day to prevent rust stains.
